sciatic-nerveSciatica is the name given to any sort of pain that is caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve.

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in your body. It runs from the back of your pelvis, through your buttocks and all the way down both legs, ending at your feet.

Anything that compresses or irritates the sciatic nerve can cause pain that radiates out from your lower back, travels down your leg to your calf. Sciatica pain can range from being mild to being very painful. The nature of the pain is like an electric shock and can be very severe. It can be aggravated in certain positions such as standing straight and sneezing or coughing.

To help prevent Sciatica and back pain you should take good care of your body. Don't sit crossed-legged because that puts pressure on the Sciatic nerve. There are key areas to work on in the body to take away Sciatica but generally an overall, full body approach is needed to rebalance the muscle system and release the pressure from the slipped disc, also known as bulge, herniation or prolapse.

People often end up having unnecessary surgery to release the pressure from the disc bulges that irritate the sciatic nerve, but don't deal with the muscle imbalances that are causing that pressure.

Help can be obtained by being given a range of exercises that strengthen the muscles that support your back and improve the flexibility of your spine. You can be taught how to improve your posture and reduce any further strain. This can be given to you during your treatment.
